It was another busy week for me and the rest of the Centre team: In partnership with Ocean Conservancy South Africa, and sponsored by the City of Cape Town, the Shark Centre, an AOCA project, based in Kalk Bay, South Africa, supported National Coastal Cleanup week which is linked to International Coastal Cleanup day. About 60-70 learners from previously disadvantaged communities arrived at the Centre each morning from 14 Sept to 18 Sept by train – we divided them into two groups and swapped over. One group had a lesson on marine pollution and sharks, while the other had a rock pool lesson across the road from the Centre. Thereafter they got busy with beach and shore cleanups in the area. The children audited the garbage they collected and the report has been sent to the Ocean Conservancy – all sorts were collected, glass, bricks, plastic, bottles, car parts etc.  In support of the week and to encourage enduring awareness, the Centre is running a Marine Pollution creative competition, which all learners will participate in.
